A pixel, the building block of the visual imagery, is a singular unit yet that holds the potential to generate infinite forms. Within this collection, the pixel square becomes the origin of a modular design system with the same conceptual framework. Each object emerges not only as a functional piece, but as part of a larger grid, a network of possibility, permutation and aesthetics.
Similar to the visual language of early video games with low-resolution environments, meaning, function, and world-building emerged from simple repeating units in primary colors and moving in X and Y directions. These game spaces, despite their limitations, offered expansive possibilities for imagination, interaction and infinite levels to conquer. Pixel Theory approaches object-making with this common nostalgia from low-res memories to provoke happy sentiments while playing with logic and system-based thinking. For the first round of prototypes, the pieces are based on 3-tier resolutions of 5 cm, 10cm and 20cm between the seating, the floor lamp, the pendant light, the table lamp and the side table.
The collection presented here is not definitive outcomes, but rather proposals: collectible forms that embody a conceptual thinking process. They represent a way of thinking modular, open-ended, and in dialogue between logic and aesthetics. They are open for collaboration and customisation.
Pixel Theory is a project by EXIT Ceren with the intention to make joyful souvenirs from the spaces she’s been creating.
